I'm a mixed media visual artist with a passion for drawing the figure. The complexities of the human form pose a special problem for the artist who doesn't rely on formulas for drawing the figure. There are no quick and easy methods for drawing, no "drawing for dummies" approach that can lead to a real understanding the the human form. There are no shortcuts.
I have no interest in making my work look like a photograph. Photos speak their own language. I would rather my work looks raw, made by hand and without a slick gloss.
Outside the art building is a patio with two lovely trees next to a huge trash and recycle bin. The area is also a dumping ground for surplus furniture. All on a big concrete slab. Pretty damn ugly. But as I said, the trees are really quite lovely. I photographed the trees from various perspectives and then made drawings in liquid graphite and metalpoint.on a prepared surface.
